THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE FLIGHT CREW WAS PREPARING THE AIRCRAFT TO OPERATE AS USAIRWAYS EXPRESS FLIGHT 1821. THE DRIVER OF THE BELT LOADER WAS FATALLY INJURED, AND NO OTHER INJURIES OCCURRED. THE AIRCRAFT AND THE BELT LOADER RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE DURING THE ACCIDENT SEQUENCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA05MA070](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA05MA070), Jun 7, 2005: Embraer 170 (N803MD), Washington, DC, minor damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The inexperience of the driver (fleet service agent) in the operation of a belt loader, which resulted in the belt loader being driven under, and colliding with, the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
