## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DAT^ WAS WAITING FOR TAKEOFF CLEARANCE, WITH HIS STUDENT, IN THE RUNUP AREA FOR RUNWAY 24 AT CRQ WHEN HIS PLANE WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY N1126U, A CESSNA 172 BEING OPERATED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^ A PRIVATE PILOT. THE PILOT'S ^PRIVACY DA^ CE-172 WAS PARKED BETWEEN N587SP AND A JET, WHILE WAITING FOR TAKEOFF CLEARANCE. WHEN N1126U WAS CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY ^ ATTEMPTED TO TAXI BETWEEN THE TWO OTHER AIRPLANES. THE RIGHT WINGTIP OF N1126U STRUCK THE RUDDER OF N587SP, BENDING THE RUDDER AND BUCKLING THE VERTICAL STABILIZER OF THAT PLANE. THERE WAS ONLY MINOR DAMAGE TO THE WINGTIP OF N1126U AS A RESULT OF THE IMPACT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO ANY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE TWO PLANES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA199](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA199), Jun 10, 2005: Cessna 172S (N587SP), Carlsbad, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the other pilot's inadequate visual lookout and failure to maintain separation while taxiing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
