## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE LOST POWER DURING PULL-UP MANEUVER. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING IN A NEARBY FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A FENCE WITH THE RIGHT WING AND SKIDDED THROUGH SOME SHRUBS AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 268 FEET FROM INITIAL IMPACT WITH THE TERRAIN. DURING THE INVESTIGATION, IT WAS NOTED THAT THERE WAS ADEQUATE FUEL FOR ENGINE OPERATION, THE SPARK PLUGS SHOWED CONSISTENT SIGNS OF NORMAL OPERATION, THERE WAS GEAR TRAIN CONTINUITY FROM THE CRANKSHAFT GEAR TO THE CAM GEAR, THE LEFT MAGNETO APPEARED TO FIRE ON THE CORRECT CYLINDER NEAR TOP DEAD CENTER, AND THERE WAS SOME FUEL PRESENT AT THE FUEL LINE FROM THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP TO THE THROTTLE SERVO. THE PILOT DESCRIBED THE ENGINE STOPPAGE AS VERY SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER CONSISTENT WITH BLADES TURNING AT A SLOW RPM. THE THROTTLE WAS AT HIGH POWER SETTING, THE MIXTURE WAS AT OR NEAR FULL RICH, AND THE PROPELLER CONTROL WAS SET TO LOW PITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA155](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA155), Jun 11, 2005: Cessna A188B (N4919R), Goodlett, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain (soft) for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
