## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FLIGHT 6543, CL-600-2B19, SERIAL NUMBER 7853, N960SW, WAS DISPATCHED IN SCHEDULED REVENUE SERVICE FROM LOS ANGELES, CA (LAX) BOUND FOR SANTA BARBAR, CA (SBA). UPON ARRIVAL IN THE SBA TERMINAL AREA, THE FLIGHT CREW ATTEMPTED TO EXTEND THE LANDING GEAR. IT WAS AT THIS TIME THAT THE FLIGHT CREW NOTED AN UNSAFE NOSE GEAR INDICATION. THE FLIGHT CREW RAN THE QUICK REFERENCE HANDBOOK (QRH) PROCEDURES IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE QRH PROCEDURES DID NOT RECTIFY THE UNSAFE LANDING GEAR ISSUE. THE FLIGHT CREW ELECTED TO RETURN TO LAX SINCE THAT AIRPORT WAS EQUIPPED WITH BETTER CRASH RESCUE CAPABILITIES. THE FLIGHT CREW ADVISED ATC OF AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 24L WITH THE NOSE GEAR RETRACTED IN THE WHEEL WELL. THE OVERWING EMERGENCY EXITS WERE OPENED BUT NOT USED AFTER THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE RUNWAY. THE FLIGHT CREW AND PASSENGERS EGRESSED USING THE MAIN CABIN DOOR. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PASSENGERS OR FLIGHT CREW AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT. THE FLIGHT CREW REPORTED THAT THE CABIN HAD SMOKE AND FUMES AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CAUSE OF LANDING GEAR MALFUNCTION IS STILL BEING DETERMINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05FA202](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05FA202), Jun 13, 2005: Bombardier Aerospace CL-600-2B19 (N960SW), Los Angeles, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: failure of the nose landing gear to extend to the down and locked position for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
