## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 06-15-2005 AT APPROXIMATELY 1710 HOURS, THE PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ATTEMPTING A TAKE-OFF FROM A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES SOUTH OF PALOUSE, WA WHEN THE ENGINE ON N330CJ, AN EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, LOST POWER. THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO CLIMB ABOVE A SMALL HILL APPROXIMATELY 250 YARDS SOUTH/SOUTHEAST OF THE DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY 22. AT FIRST CONTACT, THE NOSE GEAR WAS BROKEN FROM THE AIRCRAFT, THE AIRCRAFT THEN SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 54 YARDS AND CAME TO REST POINTED IN THE SAME DIRECTION OF THE SKIDDING IN A NOSE LOW POSITION. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AS HE WAS EXITING THE AIRCRAFT, BLACK SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM UNDER THE COWLING. THE FORWARD PORTION OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONSUMED BY THE FIRE WHICH WAS EXTINGUISHED BY LOCAL PEOPLE WHO CAME TO THE SCENE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA118](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA118), Jun 16, 2005: Rash Vans RV-6A (N330CJ), Palouse, WA, destroyed. Probable cause: Loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. Rising terrain was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
