## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE THE PILOT WAS EXECUTING THE VOR APPROACH INTO BENNINGTON (DDH), HE RECALLED THAT THE NEAREST REPORTING STATION INDICATED WINDS WERE AT 260, WHICH INDICATED HE SHOULD USE RUNWAY 31. AS THE PIC BROKE OUT AT 1500 FEET AGL, WITH ABOUT 4 MILES VISIBILITY. ON FINAL TO RUNWAY 31, THE PILOT NOTICED THAT HE WAS SLIGHTLY HIGH, BUT THOUGHT HE COULD REACH THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT INDICATED THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT SETTLING DOWN AND HE WAS ABOUT TO OVERSHOOT THE RUNWAY. AT THIS TIME HE INITIATED A GO-AROUND. AS HE WAS CLIMBING OUT HE REALIZED THAT HE HAD HIT SOMETHING. THE PILOT CLIMBED TO ABOUT 1000 FEET AND CHECKED THE WINDSOCK AND REALIZED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO LAND DOWNWIND. THE PIC LANDED ON RUNWAY 13 WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND, THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER WAS DAMAGED ON BOTH SIDES FROM HITTING RUNWAY APPROACH LIGHTS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
