## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE PILOT'S STATEMENT, THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF RUNWAY 35 AT APPROXIMATELY MIDPOINT, ROSE TO ABOUT 35 FEET, AND FAILED TO CONTINUE TO CLIMB. WIND WAS VARIABLE, 4 TO 8 KNOTS, APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 30 DEGREES LEFT OF CENTERLINE. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET FROM THE TOP. THE AIRCRAFT MAY HAVE ENCOUNTERED A DOWNDRAFT FROM THE CROSSWIND COMING OVER THE TREES ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ALSO STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS ON TAKEOFF, AND THAT THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC05CA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC05CA101), Jun 17, 2005: Valentin Taifun 17E (N13BH), Waterbury, CT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots inadvertent encounter with a downdraft, which resulted in the airplane impacting trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
