## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT (AND ONE (1) PASSENGER) WAS PRACTICING "ENGINE-OUT, TOUCH & GOES" AT A39, AT APPROX. 500 FT (AGL). THE PILOT ACCELERATED THE THROTTLE BUT THE ENGINE RAM STAYED AT APPROX. 1000 RPM. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND @ A39 BUT WAS ALREADY AT THE FAR SIDE OF RWY 2 AND ENDED UP PAST THE RUNWAY AND HE EVEN CROSSED RUSSELL ROAD, CRASHING IN THE DESERT. THE A/C RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. THERE WAS NO POST-EVENT FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA210), Jun 18, 2005: Cirrus Design SR-22 (N626Z), Phoenix, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's delay in executing a timely go-around and failure to raise the flaps, which resulted in a collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
