## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE MISHAP PILOT DEPARTED THE HORNERSVILLE, MO AIRPORT (K37M) APPROXIMATELY 13 MILES SOUTH OF THE INTENDED FIELD. PRIOR TO DEPARTURE HE WAS BRIEFED ON THE TARGET FIELDS LOCATION AND THE ASSOCIATED HAZARD OF THE TOWER. HE WAS NOT SPECIFICALLY BRIEFED ON THE GUY-WIRE HAZARD HOWEVER. AS THE PILOT MANEUVERED TO COMMENCE SPRAYING OPERATIONS, THE LEFT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK ONE OF THE GUY-WIRES APPROXIMATELY MID-WING. THIS ACTION CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO ABRUPTLY TURN 90 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND IMPACT THE GROUND IN A LEVEL ATTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY BURST INTO FLAMES AND THE RESULTING POST-CRASH FIRE DESTROYED THE AIRCRAFT AND KILLED THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05LA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05LA149), Jun 19, 2005: Cessna 188 (N9778G), Senath, MO, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the tower guy wires. A factor was the extra antenna guy wire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
