(-23) N2663A, A PA-18-135, DEPARTED GILLESPIE FIELD (SEE) ON 6/19/05 WITH ONE INDIVIDUAL ON BOARD. APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES WEST OF PINE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA, THE PILOT OBSERVED A DIRT LANDING STRIP. HE ATTEMPTED TO EXECUTE A TOUCH AND GO LANDING. AFTER TOUCH DOWN, HE REALIZED HE WAS RUNNING SHORT OF TAKEOFF AREA AND AGGRESSIVELY APPLIED THE BRAKES RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPING OVER ON ITS NOSE. THE ACFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05CA212](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05CA212), Jun 19, 2005: Piper PA-18-135 (N2663A), Pine Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delay in aborting the takeoff and excessive brake application. A contributing factor was the downsloping terrain used for the landing and takeoff.
