(-23) THE PILOT WAS LANDING AT THE BISHOP AIRPORT (BIH), WHEN THE NUTS HOLDING THE LEFT MAIN AXLE BOLTS TO THE LANDING GEAR LEG FAILED, AND THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY STARTED A TURN TO THE LEFT, THEN AS THE LANDING GEAR FOLDED UP, THE PROPELLER BLADES STRUCK THE ASPHALT. THE LEFT WING TIP AND LOWER ENGINE COWLING SUSTAINED DAMAGE FROM SCRAPING ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED BY TRAILER TO A TIEDOWN SPOT ON THE RAMP, AND A DAMAGE ASSESSMENT WAS DONE. ON 06/29/2005 THE AIRCRAFT WAS DISASSEMBLED AND TRUCKED BACK TO THE HOME BASE AT SANTA BARBARA (SBA) TO BE REPAIRED.
