## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JUNE 21, 2005, AT APPROXIMATELY 1550 CDT, N2521M WAS DESTROYED FOLLOWING AN EMERGENCY LANDING INTO A MESQUITE FIELD SOUTH OF CARRIZO SPRINGS AIRPORT. THE EMERGENCY WAS A RESULT OF THE STABILATOR TRIM ROD FAILURE IN FLIGHT CAUSING A VIOLENT VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE AIRCRAFT. THE VIBRATION WAS SO VIOLENT THE PILOT BELIEVED THE CAUSE WAS FROM THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE ASSEMBLIES. THE VIBRATIONS CAUSED THE PILOT TO FEATHER BOTH ENGINES AND TOTAL LOSS OF AIRCRAFT POWER TO AVOID IN-FLIGHT BREAKUP OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED, TWO OF THE THREE PASSENGERS SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05LA167](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05LA167), Jun 21, 2005: Piper PA-23-250 (N2521M), Carizzo Springs, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the stabilator trim control rod due to internal corrosion. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
