## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 06/26/2005 THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA^ AND ONE PASSENGER WERE RETURNING FROM A PHOTO FLIGHT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA^ OBTAINED THE ATIS AND WAS CLEARED TO THE ROTORS OF THE ROCKIES FACILITY. WHEN THE APPROACH WAS STARTED TO THE ROTORS OF THE ROCKIES LANDING PAD THE WIND WAS A TAILWIND INSTEAD OF THE HEADWIND THAT ^PRIVACY DATA^ WAS EXPECTING. HE COULD NOT ACCELERATE STRAIGHT AHEAD BECAUSE OF A FLIGHT RISE IN THE TERRAIN AND CONFLICTING TRAFFIC ON RUNWAY 20 WHICH WAS DIRECTLY AHEAD. HE PULLED BACK THE COLLECTIVE WHICH CAUSED A FURTHER DROP IN RPM AND THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE RAMP AT A HIGH RATE OF DESCENT DAMAGING THE SKIDS AND ASSOCIATED STRUCTURE. THE TAIL ROTOR CONTACTED THE GROUND AND WAS DAMAGED. THE MAIN ROTOR DID NOT MAKE GROUND CONTACT AND THERE WAS NO FUEL LEAKAGE OR ANY OTHER FLUID LEAKAGE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA^ AND THE PASSENGER DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN05CA094](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN05CA094), Jun 26, 2005: Schweizer 269C (N308BP), Broomfield, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain adequate rotor rpm which resulted in a loss of control and an uncontrolled descent.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
