## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE ON STABILIZED APPROACH, THE PILOT CLAIMED THAT THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED UP WITHOUT HIS CONTROL INPUT. HIS ATTEMPTS TO LOWER THE NOSE WAS MET WITH THE FEELING THAT THE ELEVATOR CONTROL LOCK WAS INSTALLED. HE FELT THAT THE AUTOPILOT MAY HAVE REENGAGED AND HE CYCLED THE AUTOPILOT DISCONNECT SWITCH. THIS DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN A FIELD JUST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. POST CRASH INVESTIGATION DID NOT FIND ANY REASONABLE EXPLANATION FOR THE ACTION OF THE AIRCRAFT AS DESCRIBED BY THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA129), Jun 26, 2005: Mooney M20J (N201U), Hailey, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control while on final approach for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
