## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE CAPT REPORTED A LOUD "THUMP" FROM #2 ENGINE AFTER TAKE-OFF, AND SEVERAL MORE THUMPS AT 10,000 FT. ALL ENG INDICATIONS NORMAL. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO IAH FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON RUNWAY 26R. THE CREW INITIATED AN EMERGENCY EVACUATION USING THE EXITS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT ONLY: FWD AND AFT PAX DOORS AND OVERWING EXITS. THE RIGHT EXITS OF THE AIRCRAFT WERE NOT USED DUE TO REPORTED FIRE ON RIGHT ENGINE. THE AIRPORT FIRE AND RESCUE WAS ON-SCENE DURING THE EVACUATION. THE REASON FOR THE EVACUATION WAS DUE TO OBSERVATION OF SMOKE AND FIRE FROM THE RIGHT ENGINE BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND CABIN CREW. HOWEVER, POST FLIGHT INSPECTION INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL FIRE DAMAGE, AND THAT THE FIRE WAS INTERNALLY CONTAINED ON THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT ONE PASSENGER WITH CHEST PAINS WAS TREATED AT HOSPITAL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
