## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THERE WERE SEVERAL EYEWITNESSES TO THIS ACCIDENT, AND THEY ALL REPORTED VERY SIMILAR STORIES. THE TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 4 AT GILBERT FIELD IN WINTER HAVEN, FL LOOKED NORMAL UNTIL THE AIRPLANE ENTERED THE CLIMB PHASE. ALL WITNESSES REPORTED THAT THE NOSE-HIGH ATTITUDE APPEARED "EXTREME" AND EXCESSIVE." THE AIRSPEED OF THE AIRPLANE APPEARED SLOW, AND IT BEGAN A LEFT YAW. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 150 FEET AND 450 FEET (DEPENDING ON THE WITNESS), THE AIRPLANE ENTERED A SPIN AND ROTATED 1 1/2 TIMES. THE LEFT WING AND EMPENNAGE IMPACTED THE GROUND INITIALLY. THE LEFT WING, MAIN LANDING GEAR, AND A BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT SEPARATED FROM THE PLANE AND CAME TO REST ABOUT 15 FEET FROM THE FUSELAGE. SEVERAL SECONDS THEREAFTER, SUBSEQUENT TO A JET FUEL SPILL, THE REMAINDER OF THE AIRPLANE BURST INTO FLAMES. THIS DESTROYED THE FUSELAGE AND PROBABLY KILLED THE PILOT. THE AIRPLANE WRECKAGE WAS LOCATED ON THE GRASS NORTH OF RUNWAY 4; THIS IS INDICATIVE OF THE AIRPLANE YAWING AND TURNING LEFT DURING THE CLIMBOUT.
