## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE DEMONSTRATING A STALL MANEUVER THE ENGINE STOPPED IN FLIGHT. AN ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED INTO THE TREES WHILE ATTEMPTING AN EMERGENCY LANDING INTO AN OPEN FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED AND THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION BY FAA AND NTSB REVEALED INTERNAL OVERTEMPERATURE DAMAGE TO NUMBER 3 CYLINDER. THE NTSB WILL HAVE FURTHER TEST OF THE ENGINE PERFORMED (WITH GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT) BY LYCOMING THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA05LA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA05LA129), Jul 2, 2005: Cessna 172S (N53269), Glen Saint Mary, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The separation of a plastic sleeve off the idle stop of the servo fuel injector for undetermined reasons resulting in decreased fuel flow and subsequent total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
