## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER NEAR NAUVOO, ILLINOIS. PILOT REPORTED NO ENGINE ANOMALIES BUT STATED THAT HE HAD MADE A HARD LANDING. THE RESULT WAS THAT THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED OFF THE WATER AND WHEN IT CONTACTED THE WATER THE SECOND TIME IT FLIPPED OVER. THE PILOT INDICATED THAT UPON THE SECOND CONTACT WITH THE WATER'S SURFACE, THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE MAY HAVE STRUCK A BOW WAVE FROM A BOAT WHICH FLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT OVER. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA169](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA169), Jul 2, 2005: Kelley Volmer Amphibian B (N47111), Nauvoo, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain appropriate airspeed during landing, which resulted in a stall/mush condition and hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
