## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 03, 2005 AT (9A1) COVINGTON, GEORGIA AT 12:09PM, A MINI-MAX EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR BUILT AIRCRAFT (N11949) DEPARTED RUNWAY (10) FOR ITS INITIAL FLIGHT. THERE WERE VERY LIGHT WINDS FROM THE NORTHEAST, FAVORING RUNWAY 10 FOR TAKE OFF. WITNESSES STATED THE PILOT DEPARTED WITHOUT ANY APPARENT PROBLEMS. AT AN ALTITUDE OF ABOUT 100-150 FEET AGL AND STILL ALIGNED WITH RUNWAY 10 WITNESS STATED THE PILOT MADE SEVERAL THROTTLE ADJUSTMENTS, THEN MADE A LEFT TURN NEAR THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE TURN APPEARED TO BE ABOUT A 30 DEGREE BANK, THERE WERE MORE THROTTLE ADJUSTMENTS, INCREASING AND DECREASING ENGINE POWER. AFTER THE PILOT EXECUTED THE TURN AT ABOUT 180 DEGREES, DOWNWIND, AND AT REDUCED THROTTLE, THE PLANE APPEARED TO STALL, ROLL TO THE LEFT, AND CRASH NOSE DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND AT THE EDGE OF THE TAXIWAY. ONE PERSON ON BOARD, ONE FATALITY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED ON IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05LA121](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05LA121), Jul 3, 2005: Denmark Mini-Max (N11949), Covington, GA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed, which resulted in an inadvertent stall, uncontrolled descent, and subsequent collision with the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
