## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER AIRPLANE LOST POWER DURING FINAL APPROACH. AIRPLANE WAS FOUND TO HAVE 8.5 GALLONS OF FUEL IN THE LEFT TANK AND LESS THAN 6 OUNCES OF FUEL IN THE RIGHT TANK. FUEL SELECTOR WAS ON THE LEFT TANK. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SWITCHED FUEL TANKS FROM THE RIGHT TANK TO THE LEFT TANK ON SHORT FINAL APPROACH AFTER THE POWER LOSS AND SAID HE DID NOT TURN EITHER THE LOW OR HIGH FUEL BOOST PUMPS ON. THE AIRPLANE FAILED TO REGAIN POWER. THE AIRPLANE STRUCK AN EVERGREEN TREE AND FENCE BEFORE COMING TO REST IN A COTTON FIELD ON THE AIRPORT PROPERTY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA170](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA170), Jul 4, 2005: Mooney M20K (N5791U), Kennett, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The fuel starvation, inadequate preflight planning and preparation, and inadequate in-flight planning/decision by the pilot.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
