## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 14 VFR PART 137, APPLYING CHEMICAL TO A FIELD. THE PILOT REPORTED HITTING A GUY WIRE SUPPORTING A WOODEN POLE APPROXIMATELY 60 FEET TALL. THE POLE WAS PART OF A HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINE RUNNING NEAR THE FIELD BEING SPRAYED. THE GUY WIRE WAS UNMARKED. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS AWARE OF GUY WIRES SUPPORTING THE NEXT SET OF POLES IN THE LINE BUT DIDN'T SEE THE ONE HE HIT. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GUY WIRE JUST INBOARD OF THE RIGHT AILERON SEVERING THE WING AT THAT POINT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS AND IMPACTED A SLOUGH ADJACENT TO THE FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A POND OF WATER APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 FEET DEEP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED AND NO FIRE ENSUED. THE PILOT RECEIVED SERIOUS INJURIES TO HIS CHEST AREA, BUT WAS ABLE TO EXTRACT HIMSELF FROM THE WRECKAGE.
