## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS FLYING WEST OF THE BONNERS FERRY, IDAHO AIRPORT. HE STATED HE WANTED TO SHOW HIS PASSENGER ^PRIVACY DATA^ THE MOUNTAIN LAKE THEY HAD BACKPACKED INTO THE WEEKEND BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. HE TURNED UP A CANYON AND COULD NOT CLIMB RISING TERRAIN. HE CONTACTED A TREE AND THE AIRCRAFT SPIRALED INTO THE GROUND. HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. WHEN HE AWOKE HE CALLED THE SHERIFF ON HIS CELL PHONE AND GAVE THEM THEIR LOCATION. THE PILOT SPREAD AN ORANGE TARP OUT FOR THE RESCUE PARTY TO SEE. HE THEN ATTENDED TO THE PASSENGER'S NEEDS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA145](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA145), Jul 17, 2005: Cessna 172N (N120ER), Bonners Ferry, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain terrain clearance while maneuvering. Mountainous terrain was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
