## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT OF N49KB APPROACHED CARTHAGE AIRPORT (PRIVATE STRIP) DURING CROSSWIND CONDITIONS. AS THE PILOT LANDED, HE APPLIED FULL BRAKES. THE AIRCRAFT THEN VEERED OFF OF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT AND CONTINUED TO TRAVEL FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET BEFORE SLIDING DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND COMING TO REST IN SMALL TREES AND BRUSH. THE FAA LEARNED OF THE ACCIDENT MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05CA166](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05CA166), Jul 17, 2005: Beech 35 (N49KB), Carthage, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's excessive braking resulting in a loss of control and subsequent impact with gully. A related factor was the tailwind.

## Other reports on N49KB (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19830831062819I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830831062819I), Aug 31, 1983: Beech A35 (N49KB), Camarillo, CA, Minor damage. Engine quit on climbout. Landed straight ahead in a field. Selector on empty fuel tank. Other three quarters full.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
