## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT, THE PILOT DEPARTED JEROME COUNTY AIRPORT (U73), JEROME, IDAHO, FROM (RWY26) IN A TURBINE POWERED GRUMMAN AIRCRAFT, MODEL G-164-A, LOADED WITH 2,000 LBS OF DRY FERTILIZER. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD JUST CLEARED POWER LINES WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STARTED LOSING AIR SPEED. HE SAID THERE WAS A NORTHEAST WIND AND HE WAS NEAR A HILLSIDE WHEN THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED INTO A MOUND (OUT CROPPING OF ROCKS). THE MAIN GEAR WAS SHEARED OFF AS THE AIRCRAFT WAS SINKING INTO THE CORNFIELD, AT A LEVEL ATTITUDE, AND SLIGHTLY ANGLED TO THE RIGHT. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE LOWER FUSELAGE STRUCTURE, LOWER WINGS, LANDING GEAR ATTACHMENT POINTS, AND CURLED PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA146](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA146), Jul 19, 2005: Grumman G-164A (N6702Q), Jerome, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: Failure to maintain clearance from terrain during takeoff and initial climb. A high density altitude was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
