## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 2000 FT SHORT AND SLIGHTLY LEFT OF THE RWY 23 CENTERLINE. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS HIGH ON FINAL APPROACH; FLAPS WERE FULLY EXTENDED, WITH THE THROTTLE IDLE AND CARBURETOR HEAT ON. HE PLACED CARBURETOR HEAT OFF IN ANTICIPATION OF A POSSIBLE GO-AROUND. HE THEN NOTED A DECREASE IN IDLE RPM, SO HE REAPPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT AND ATTEMPTED TO ADD POWER; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND AND THEN THE PROPELLER STOPPED ROTATING. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT WING TIP HIT A LIGHT POLE BEFORE HITTING THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 30 FT AND THEN HIT A BUSH AND A CONCRETE LIGHT POLE BASE BEFORE COMING TO REST IN A PARKING LOT. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MAJOR DAMAGE FORWARD OF THE COCKPIT, THE ENGINE WAS BENT UP APPROXIMATELY 30 DEGREES, THE LEFT WING TIP WAS RIPPED OFF, AND BOTH MAIN LANDING GEAR WERE BENT OUT AND UP. BOTH PILOTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA248](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA248), Jul 29, 2005: Scandinavian Aero Industry KZ VII (N159KZ), Elko, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to use carburetor heat, which resulted in the formation of carburetor ice and the total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
