## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHEN THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ REDUCED POWER FOR LANDING AT WHEELER AIRPORT, KNOX, INDIANA HE NOTED THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH. AFTER LANDING AND EXITING RUNWAY 36 THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE THEN STOPPED THE AIRCRAFT ON THE TAXIWAY TO INVESTIGATE THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE. THE AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT AREA ERUPTED IN FLAMES. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ USED THE AIRCRAFT'S FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOTALLY CONSUMED BY FIRE ON THE TAXIWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA210), Aug 1, 2005: Barr Barr Six (N83W), Knox, IN, destroyed. Probable cause: The undetermined cause of the fire during the taxi.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
