## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE CESSNA 172RG WAS ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT LANDING RW 33 AT LOVELAND FORT COLLINS AIRPORT WITH THE STUDENT AS THE FLYING PILOT. HE ENCOUNTERED A RIGHT CROSSWIND REPORTED TO BE GUSTING TO 15 KTS. AT TOUCHDOWN THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO THE LEFT DEPARTED THE ASPHALT AND CONTINUED INTO THE GRASS AREA. THE STUDENT ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER BY APPLYING POWER IN AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE OFF. THE INSTRUCTOR WAITED UNTIL THIS POINT TO TAKE CONTROL, REMOVED ENGINE POWER AND CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS AREA. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK AN AIRPORT SIGN AND RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NONE OF THE THREE OCCUPANTS ONBOARD WERE INJURED.
