## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TAKEOFF AND AT APPROXIMATELY 300 FT AGL, AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED TOTAL POWER LOSS AND LANDED IN UNEVEN TERRAIN CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. UPON ENGINE DISASSEMBLY, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER EXHAUST VALVE PUSH ROD HAD FAILED, CAUSING THE POWER LOSS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC05LA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC05LA129), Aug 6, 2005: Grumman-Schweizer G-164A (N48395), Penn Yan, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to a fatigue fractured pushrod.

## Other reports on N48395 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19900830037499A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900830037499A), Aug 30, 1990: Scwzer G164A (N48395), Wayland, NY, Substantial damage. Engine failed during a spray run. Cartwheeled on landing in a corn field. Cause was a cracked cylinder.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
