## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON AUGUST 07, THIS BLANIK L-23 WAS BEING TOWED TO FLIGHT AT 6MN9. AFTER TAKE-OFF ROLL THE TOW AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AN INABILITY TO GENERATE SUFFICIENT POWER TO MAINTAIN A SUCCESSFUL TOW OPERATION. THE TOW AIRCRAFT THEN RADIOED PILOT OF BLANIK L-23. THE BLANIK PILOT REPORTS HEARING "I CAN'T MAKE, I CAN'T MAKE IT" FROM THE TOWER OPERATOR. WITH AN AVAILABLE LANDING OPPORTUNITY IN SIGHT THE BLANIK L-23 PILOT RELEASED THE TETHER FROM THE TOW AIRCRAFT AND LANDED IN THE PASTURE ADJACENT TO 6MN9. MINIMAL DAMAGE TO BLANIK L-23 COULD BE OBSERVED. DAMAGE PRIMARILY FOUND ON WING SURFACE. NOTE: PILOT OF BLANIK L-23 IS REGARDED AS ANCILLARY TO THE INCIDENT. TOW AIRCRAFT AND OPERATOR ARE VIEWED AS PRIMARY CAUSE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
