## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AN EXPERIMENTAL GYROCOPTER ATTEMPTED A TAKE-OFF ON RUNWAY 24 AT THE BLUE ASH AIRPORT, CINCINNATI, OHIO (ISZ) AT APPROXIMATELY 1455 LOCAL TIME. JUST AFTER TAKE-OFF, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED & THEN STARTED LOSING POWER. THE GYROCOPTER WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET ALTITUDE AND COMING NEAR THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT REDUCED POWER TO IDLE. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED AN AUTOROTATION TO LAND ON THE REMAINING AMOUNT OF RUNWAY. DURING THE LANDING, THE PILOT OVERROTATED CAUSING THE TAIL SECTION TO STRIKE THE GROUND FIRST, FORCING THE NOSE SECTION DOWN. THE RESULTING IMPACT BROKE THE NOSE GEAR OFF AND THE GYROCOPTER ROLLED OVER ONTO ITS RIGHT SIDE. THE ROTOR BLADES STRUCK THE RUNWAY AND THE GYROCOPTER SLID DOWN THE RUNWAY ON ITS RIGHT SIDE COMING TO REST AT THE END OF RUNWAY 24.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD05LA116](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD05LA116), Aug 7, 2005: O'Connor Air Command Elite (N2416P), Cincinnati, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper flare following a partial loss of engine power, which resulted in a hard landing. A factor was the partial loss of engine power for unknown reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
