## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS PARTICIPATING IN A SOARING CONTEST FROM UVALDE, TX. THE AFTERNOON DEPARTURE CULMINATED IN A LANDING ON A FARM ROAD TWO-TENTHS OF A MILE FROM RANCH STRIP OF INTENDED LANDING. THE RANCH STRIP WAS OVERGROWN AND NOT DISCERNABLE ON THE DAY OF THIS FLIGHT. LANDING TERRAIN WAS OVERGROWN WITH SCRUB BRUSH WHICH AIRCRAFT CONTACTED ON LANDING. THE IMPACT DISPLAYED THE GLIDER DIRECTION AND ROUTED IT INTO A RANCH FENCE, WHICH DAMAGED THE EMPENNAGE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA211](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA211), Aug 8, 2005: Schleicher ASW-27b (N274DW), Encinal, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of distance and altitude during a cross-country soaring flight. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
