## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT ^PRIVACY^ ADVISED THAT HE WAS SPRAYING THE FIELD JUST WEST OF THE FARMSITE, ACROSS THE RED RIVER. HE WAS COMPLETING A WEST TO EAST PASS AND HAD INITIATED A RIGHT TO LEFT BANK & CLIMB TURN. WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN, HE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER, APPLIED THROTTLE WITH NO REACTION, NOTED MANIFOLD PRESSURE (MAP) TO BE AROUND 20 INHG, (ADVISED NORMAL MAP TO BE APPROX 30 INHG). HE REALIZED HE WAS LOSING ALTITUDE AND WAS VERY NEAR THE FARMHOUSE, PICKED THE WIDE GRASSY DITCH, PARALLEL IN FRONT (SOUTHSIDE) OF THE FARMHOUSE TO SET THE AIRCRAFT DOWN AS HE DID NOT HAVE THE AIRSPEED TO MAKE IT ACROSS THE RIVER TO THE FIELD. WHILE MISSING THE FARM HOUSE AND AVOIDING A MANNED TRACTOR IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE AIRCRAFT CLIPPED A FEW TALL TREES IN THE FARM YARD, FLEW UNDER THE POWER LINES, IMPACTED THE POWER LINE POLE WITH THE RIGHT WING, SPINNING THE AIRCRAFT AROUND 180 DEGREES, AND TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 50-60YDS BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY^ EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AS IT HAD IMMEDIATELY STARTED ON FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05LA234](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05LA234), Aug 9, 2005: Grumman G-164 (N553Y), Georgetown, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The reported loss of engine power for undetermined reasons while maneuvering and the low altitude of the operation. Related factors were the unsuitable terrain encountered by the pilot, and trees.

## Other reports on N553Y (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19900619021549I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900619021549I), Jun 19, 1990: Scwzer G164 (N553Y), La Feria, TX, Minor damage. Engine stopped on a spray run. Forced landing in field and overturned.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
