## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED LITCHFIELD AIRPORT AFTER CHECKING FUEL QUANTITY AND DETERMINING THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1/4 TANK REMAINING. WHILE IN LEVEL FLIGHT APPROXIMATELY 12 MILES NORTH EAST OF THE AIRPORT, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE AIRCRAFT MADE A FORCED LANDING IN A CORN FIELD. EXAMINATION OF THE FUEL TANKS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS ONLY UNUSABLE FUEL LEFT IN THE TANKS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

- [NTSB CHI05CA222](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA222), Aug 11, 2005: Cessna 150L (N6601G), Hillsboro, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The improper preflight planning/preparation by the pilot and fuel exhaustion during cruise flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
