## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THIS REPORT IS CODED AS AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE NTSB DESIGNATION AS SUCH. THE REPORTING INSPECTOR DID NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW THE AIRCRAFT AS IT HAD BEEN FERRIED OUT OF LAS VEGAS BY AMERICAN AIRLINES BY THE TIME FOLLOW-UP WAS ASSIGNED. THE EVENT WAS VIDEOTAPED BY A BYSTANDER AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SHOWN ON LOCAL TV STATIONS. THE VIDEO SHOWS THAT THE RIGHT WING WAS THE FIRST PART OF THE AIRPLANE TO CONTACT THE RUNWAY. IT APPEARED TO BE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT. THE AIRPLANE THEN ROLLED TO THE LEFT WHILE APPEARING TO YAW TO THE RIGHT, TOUCHING DOWN HARD IN A SKID. AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTORS WHO LOOKED AT THE AIRPLANE REPORTED THAT THE RIGHT WINGTIP WAS MOSTLY GONE WITH SOME DAMAGE TO THE OUTBOARD SLAT EVIDENT. THE WEATHER AT LAS VEGAS AT THE TIME OF LANDING WAS CLEAR WITH WINDS REPORTED AS VARIABLE AT 4 KNOTS. THE PIC REPORTED THE INCIDENT THROUGH AMERICAN'S APPROVED ASAP PROGRAM. FOLLOW-UP ACTION WILL BE COORDINATED BETWEEN THE AIRLINE AND THE CMO.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
