## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED HE WAS MAKING AN APPROACH TO A GRAVEL BAR ALONG A RIVER, AND MADE A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN TO GET LINED UP WITH THE INTENDED LANDING AREA. HE SAID HE NOTED HIS ALTITUDE WAS GETTING A LITTLE LOW AND ADDED SOME POWER, BUT HIS SINK RATE WAS STILL INCREASING. HE THEN ADDED FULL POWER AND SEEMED TO ARREST THE SINK RATE WHEN THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN AND THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED, ABOUT 200 FEET SHORT OF THE INTENDED LANDING AREA. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED AROUND 180 DEG. AND RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance and altitude on final approach to land, which resulted in an undershoot and structural damage to the airplane. A factor associated with the accident was a downdraft.
