## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT BRIEFED THE PASSENGERS THE DAY OF THE FLIGHT THAT DUE TO THE WINDS, A SOFT LANDING WAS NOT GOING TO BE POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, THE INJURED PASSENGER INSISTED IN TAKING THE RIDE. UPON LANDING THE BALLOON BOUNCED ONE TIME AND AT THAT POINT THE PASSENGER STATED THAT HER ANKLE HAD BEEN INJURED. THE INJURED PASSENGER WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT AND THE DOCTORS DISCOVERED THAT SHE HAD A FRACTURED ANKLE. THE DOCTORS PERFORMED A SURGERY ON THE PASSENGER THE FOLLOWING DAY. THERE WAS NO OTHER PERSON INJURED AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA223](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA223), Aug 19, 2005: Aerostar International RX-8 (N6339G), Denton, TX, no damage. Probable cause: The passenger's failure to follow landing instructions, which resulted in serious injury. A contributing factor was the high wind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
