## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PIPER PA 22, N2373P SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AFTER STRIKING A CAR WHILE APPROACH TO LAND ON RUNWAY 21 AT BROADHEAD AIRPORT, BROADHEAD, WISCONSIN ON AUGUST 20, 2005. THE VFR PLEASURE FLIGHT HAD ORIGINATED AT BROOKLYN WISCONSIN AT 0815. THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND AND SOLE OCCUPANT, ^PRIVACY DATA OM^ RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. THE OCCUPANT OF THE CAR WAS NOT INJURED. THE CAR RECEIVED DAMAGE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BETWEEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND REAR DOOR. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ REPORTED THAT HE WAS A LITTLE LOW AFTER TURNING FINAL SO HE ADDED POWER. HE STATED HE WAS FOCUSED ON THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. HE STATED THAT AS HE CAME UP TO THE ROAD, WHICH RUNS ADJACENT TO THE AIRPORT, THE TERRAIN APPEARED TO RISE SO HE ADDED POWER. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ STATED THAT HE FELT THE AIRCRAFT LURCH AND THE NEXT THING HE RECALLS IS THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY WITH THE NOSE DOWN. HE REPORTED THAT HE NEVER SAW THE CAR COMING FROM THE NORTH-THAT THE TALL CORN IN THE FIELD NEXT TO THE ROAD AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE AIRCRAFT WOULD HAVE OBSCURED THE CAR. AT THE TIME THAT FSDO PERSONNEL ARRIVED ON SCENE, THE CAR HAD BEEN REMOVED. THE GREEN COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT REPORT INDICATES THAT THE CAR WAS SIX FEET, FIVE INCHES HIGH AND THAT THE PLANE STRUCK THE VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT AND RIGHT MAIN TIRE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 440 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 21. THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE AND RIGHT MAIN GEAR WERE COLLAPSED. THE FIREWALLL AND ENGINE MOUNTS WERE DAMAGED, ALONG WITH SUBSTANTIAL WRINKLING IN THE RIGHT FUSELAGE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ REPORTED THERE HAD BEEN NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA241](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA241), Aug 20, 2005: Piper PA-22-150 (N2373P), Brodhead, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/altitude which resulted in an undershoot. A related factor was the vehicle the airplane contacted.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
