## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT DEPARTED MRI AROUND 1400 TO DO TAKE OFFS AND LANDINGS AT GOOSE BAY. AFTER FLYING AROUND FOR 1 1/2 HOURS THEY RETURNED AND WERE COMING INTO LAND AT MRI. PILOT STATED HE WAS DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 25, IN CLOSE, "OVER THE COSTCO BUILDING AT 500 FEET WITH FULL FLAPS." HE HAD TURNED BASE AND WAS DESCENDING TO LAND WHEN THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO PITCH DOWN REALLY HARD. HE ADDED POWER AND THE PITCH DOWN GOT WORSE. THE PITCH DOWN GOT LESS WITH LOWER POWER APPLIED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME DOWN ABOUT 1/2 MILE SHORT OF RUNWAY 25 MRI ON THE EASTERN EDGE OF THE NORTHAY MALL PARKING LOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC05LA128](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC05LA128), Aug 22, 2005: Gardner SR3500 (N400KL), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The malfunction of the propeller reversing system during landing, which allowed the propeller to reverse pitch in-flight, resulting in an uncontrolled descent and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
