## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE IN ROUTE FROM ALBANY, NY (ALB) TO GOODSPEED AIRPORT (42B) AIRCRAFT, REGISTRATION NUMBER N37KT, WAS FLYING AT 3500FT CRUISE, JUST NORTH EAST OF WATERBURY-OXFORD (OXC) AIRSPACE WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE LOST OIL PRESSURE. THE PILOT HEARD CLICKING IN THE ENGINE AREA AND THE PROP STOPPED TURNING. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY TURNED FOR OXC FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING. HE REALIZED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE THE GLIDING DISTANCE TO MAKE THE AIRPORT SO HE PICKED AN OPEN CORN FIELD BELOW AND SPIRALED THE AIRCRAFT DOWN FOR A LANDING. HE BOUNCED HARD ONCE AND THEN TRIED TO BRING THE AIRCRAFT TO A STOP. THE CORN FIELD WAS SLOPED DOWNWARD MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED WHEN IT HIT TREES AT THE END OF THE CORN FIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC05LA139](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC05LA139), Aug 27, 2005: Terrio Pober Jr Ace (N37KT), Oxford, CT, substantial damage. Probable cause: A fractured oil pressure line, which resulted in the fracture of the number 3 cylinder connecting rod bearing, and subsequent loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
