## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS FLYING HIS AIRCRAFT IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AT GARDNER MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (K34), GARDNER, KANSAS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING PHASE-1 FLIGHT TESTING AFTER INSTALLING A NEW ENGINE. AS THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED MIDFIELD DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 17, THE ENGINE LOST PARTIAL POWER. THE PILOT MANEUVERED THE AIRCRAFT TO FINAL APPROACH FOR RUNWAY 17 AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER DUE TO FAILURE OF THE IGNITION CAPACITOR IN THE DISTRIBUTER. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN HARD AT THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 17 ON THE MAIN WHEELS CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR STRUCTURE. INCIDENT ^PRIVACY DATA^ IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
