## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE FROM BATESVILLE, AR TO STERLING ROCKFALLS, IL ON A PLEASURE FLIGHT WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. THE PILOT SWITCHED MAGS WITH NO CHANGE. THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT IN A BEAN FIELD WHERE IT FLIPPED OVER. DURING LATER CONVERSATIONS WITH THE PILOT, HE STATED THAT HE TRIED SWITCHING FUEL TANKS AS WELL AS CYCLING THE CARB HEAT. HE ALSO OFFERED THAT HE KNEW HE WAS IN VIOLATION OF THE FARS DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE HAD NEVER PROPERLY REGISTERED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA259](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA259), Sep 9, 2005: Dixon RV-4 (N9120Q), Grafton, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to contamination of the fuel system, gascolator and carburetor inlet screen. A factor to the accident was the soybean crop.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
