## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) INSPECTOR TALKED WITH THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HE IS RECOVERING AT HOME CURRENTLY. HE REPORTS THAT HE HAS TWO COMPRESSED VERTEBRAE (10&11) AND A BRUISED LIVER (POSSIBLY FROM THE CONTROL STICK). I ASKED WHAT TOOK PLACE ON SATURDAY. HE RESPONDED HE SPUN INTO THE WATER. I ASKED HIM ABOUT THE FUEL AND MECHANICAL ISSUES AND THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ REPLIED THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL OR ENGINE PROBLEM WITH THE AIRPLANE. INSPECTOR ASKED HIM TO DESCRIBE THE FLIGHT. HE SAID HE DEPARTED BELFAST AIRPORT. ME ABOUT 1555 HRS FLEW TO FISH POND (HOPE, ME). ON THE FIRST LANDING HE PICKED OUT A SMALL COVE. HE BEGAN HIS APPROACH FROM A LEFT DOWN WIND AND TURNED FINAL ABOUT 200 FT. IT WAS WINDY AND THAT'S WHY HE PICKED THE SMALL COVE. A GUST OF WIND PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT DOWN BELOW THE HILLS, HE ADDED FULL POWER AND PULLED UP ON THE CONTROLS. HIS AIRSPEED HE REPORTED WAS 55 KTS WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AND BEGAN TO SPIN AS HE HIT THE WATER AT A FLAT ATTITUDE. THIS TOOK PLACE ABOUT 1610 HRS. FRIENDS TURNED OF THE BLT AND BROUGHT THE AIRCRAFT TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE AIRCRAFT IS REPORTED TOTALED. THE FIBERGLASS HULL SUFFERED MULTIPLE FRACTURES AND CRACKS. THE BRACE SUPPORTING THE ENGINE TO THE WIN G IS BENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD05CA134](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD05CA134), Sep 10, 2005: Lamont Aventura II (N9138W), Hope, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin and subsequent impact with water. A factor to the accident was the wind gusts.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
