## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER DEPARTURE FROM SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT THE OUTER PANE OF THE PILOT'S WINDSHIELD SHATTERED BETWEEN 30,000 TO 31,000 FEET. PILOT DECLARED EMERGENCY AND LANDED SAFELY AT THE SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. PILOT REPORTED PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE AIRCRAFT WINDSHIELD HEATER AND CABIN PRESSURIZATION SYSTEMS. AIRSPEED WAS 300 KTS, OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY -20 DEGREES CELSIUS. NO OBJECTS WERE OBSERVED IMPACTING THE WINDSHIELD BEFORE ITS FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
