## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2005, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMIT^ (SPORT PILOT) TOOK OFF FROM THE MELBOURNE ARKANSAS AIRPORT (42A) AT APPROXIMATELY 0715 CST FOR A SHORT RECREATIONAL FLIGHT IN A TAYLORCRAFT BC12-D, N95006. AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MINUTES INTO THIS FLIGHT HE NOTICED A DROP IN THE RPM. HE THEN MADE A TURN BACK TOWARD THE MELBOURNE AIRPORT. DURING THE RETURN TO MELBOURNE HE STILL DID NOT REGAIN NORMAL RPM AND NEAR THE TOWN OF GUION HE LOST ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. HE LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING. HE NOTICED AN OPEN FIELD AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND. HE HAD THE AIRPLANE UNDER CONTROL UNTIL HE HIT A RIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER FORWARD. THE AIRCRAFT REMAINED UPSIDE DOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT BUT THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA246](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA246), Sep 20, 2005: Taylorcraft BC12-D (N95006), Guion, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
