## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT INITIATED A GO AROUND ON THE FIRST APPROACH FOR A LANDING;THEN ON THE SECOND APPROACH, THE PILOT LANDED LONG, ABOUT MID FIELD. THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON THE RUNWAY REMAINING. THE PILOT THEN TRIED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN TO AVOID THE HIGHWAY ON THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY. THIS CAUSED THE NOSE GEAR TO FAIL. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR, ENGINE MOUNTS, PROPELLER, AND FIREWALL. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THIS ACCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA224](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA224), Sep 21, 2005: Piper PA-28-140 (N6266W), Mount Ayr, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of a wrong runway, and the misjudged distance/speed which resulted in an overrun. Contributing factors were the tailwind, and the ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
