## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 09/22/2005 AT 2158 LOCAL TIME A PIPER ARROW OWNED BY THE WPAFB AERO CLUB PERFORMED A GEAR-UP NIGHT LANDING AT THE WPAFB. THE INSTRUCTOR & STUDENT (A HIGH TIME AF PILOT) WERE NOT INJURED. THE STUDENT WAS EXECUTING A SIMULATED ENGINE-OUT LANDING. SINCE THE STUDENT OVER EXTENDED THE DOWNWIND PORTION OF THE APPROACH, HE MISJUDGED THE LANDING. HE REALIZED THAT THEY WOULD NOT MAKE THE RUNWAY, VERIFIED THE FACT WITH THE INSTRUCTOR, THEN ADDED POWER TO CONTINUE THE APPROACH. HE ELECTED NOT TO LOWER THE FLAPS FOR LANDING BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVELY LONG RUNWAY. NEITHER THE STUDENT NOR THE INSTRUCTOR VERIFIED THE POSITION OF THE LANDING GEAR, WHICH WAS STILL IN THE UP POSITION. AS THE STUDENT FLARED FOR LANDING, THEY REALIZED WHEN THE PROP HIT THE GROUND & STOPPED THAT THE LANDING GEAR WAS NOT DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
