## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A CESSNA 172P LANDING ON RUNWAY 36 AT FREEWAY AIRPORT (W00) LOST CONTROL WHILE ATTEMPTING A CROSSWIND LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY ON THE LEFT SIDE (APPROX. 1100 FEET FROM THE THRESHOLD) AT A 30 DEGREE ANGLE FROM THE RUNWAY HEADING (APPROX. 330 DEGREES). THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED 266 FEET THROUGH THE GRASS, STRUCK A TIED DOWN GRUMMAN TIGER (N9916) AND THEN STRUCK THE NEXT AIRCRAFT A DIAMOND DA-40 (N392MA) BEFORE IT STOPPED. ALL THREE AIRCRAFT WERE SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED, NO INJURY TO THE SINGLE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC05CA146](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC05CA146), Sep 23, 2005: Cessna 172P (N99137), Mitchellville, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
