## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FOLLOWING A TAKEOFF FROM A REMOTE DIRT STIP THE PILOT REMAINED AT LOW ALTITUDE FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES TO LOOK AT SOME PROPERTY. WHEN THE PILOT WENT TO CLIMB OUT FROM THE LOW ALTITUDE THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CLIMB. HE ELECTED TO LAND ON WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A DRY LAKE BED. AFTER LANDING HE DETERMINED THAT THE FLAPS WERE EXTENDED AND THAT HAD CAUSED THE DRAG RESULTING IN NOT BEING ABLE TO CLIMB. HE PARTIALLY RETRACTED THE FLAPS AND ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF FROM THE LAKE BED. AS THE TAKEOFF ROLL CONTINUED ALONG THE LAKE SHORE THE SURFACE BECAME SOFTER. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2,200 FEET OF GROUND ROLL THE AIRCRAFT SUNK INTO THE SOFT SURFACE STRIKING THE PROP AND FLIPPING OVER ITS BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN05CA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN05CA149), Sep 28, 2005: Cessna 206 (N206FB), Brigham City, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's improper in-flight planning and decision making and failure to maintain aircraft control during the ground roll.. Contributing to the accident was the soft dirt.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
