## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE CRUISING AT 2500 FEET MSL, THE POWERPLANTS CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE BEGAN TO RISE. UPON REACHING THE TOP OF THE SCALE, THE ENGINE FAILED. PILOT DETERMINED LAKE HARTWELL TO BE THE MOST SUITABLE DITCHING LOCATION AND PROCEEDED TO DO SO. UPON SPLASHDOWN, THE NOSE PITCHED DOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED TO AN INVERTED POSITION WITH THE NOSE RESTING ON THE LAKE BED. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AND MADE HIS WAY TO SHORE WITH MINOR SCRATCHES. POST RECOVERY: ENGINE ROTATED FREELY, AVGAS CONFIRMED IN FUEL LINE, SPARK PLUGS CLEAN. UNSUCCESSFUL START ATTEMPT. CAUSE OF POWERPLANT FAILURE WAS NOT EVIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
