## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PIC ATTEMPTED A SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF ON A HARD SURFACED FARM ROAD IN WINDS OF 10 KNOTS GUSTING TO FIFTEEN KNOTS. THERE WERE MESQUITE TREES AND SCRUB BRUSH ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER LIFTOFF AT APPROXIMATELY 50 KNOTS, THE RIGHT WING TIP BECAME ENTANGLED WITH A MESQUITE TREE. THE RESULTING FORCE YAWED THE AIRPLANE TO THE RIGHT. THE PIC WAS UNABLE TO OVERCOME THE UPSET FORCE AND SUBSEQUENTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND AT AN ANGLE RELATIVE TO THE FARM ROAD AND IN A SIDEWAYS SLIDE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA253](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA253), Sep 29, 2005: Cessna 172S (N5343U), Batesville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from the tree. A contributing factor was the gusty winds.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
